Evanston Public Library Retrofit

Adapting a 1960s library for modern use

The City of Evanston needed to modernize its 1960s-era public library while preserving its iconic architecture. Johnson conducted a full structural assessment and crafted a phased retrofit plan to bring the building up to current seismic and accessibility standards without interrupting operations. Through strategic reinforcement of load-bearing systems and discreet modernizations, the library was revitalized into a safer, more accessible space that now stands as a landmark for successful civic preservation.
